Big news: I am hosting an event for superstar Lauren Groff on behalf of her phenomenal new story collection BRAWLER in my backyard on March 7. She will be joined by local soul/r&b goddess Sabine McCalla. It is going to be a fantastic event.

Tickets (which include the price of the book) are here, and I would snatch one up now!

Hi friends.

The sun came out yesterday and I biked down to the Quarter in the afternoon to see what I could see, maybe get a little Mardi Gras inspiration. I wondered if any tourists had shown up yet for the season. (They had.) Also I just wanted to listen to some street musicians—we have the best ones in the world here, in my opinion. I stood on street corners and tipped them and smiled at them, at strangers, at the end of January.

Then I biked to a cafe to pick up a plant I had bought as part of a fundraiser to support some neighbors impacted by ICE. Then I thought about how we are all just taking turns pushing money back and forth to each other from the same small pile, and we have been and will continue to do this our entire lives.

Well, at least we have each other.

Back in my neighborhood a lot of the older folks were sitting on their front porches in the late afternoon catching the last rays of sun, and I greeted them as I walked the dog. People are really out here on these streets. It’s one of the things I love most about this city. I hope wherever you are you can get a break today and see a neighbor.

And now on to a wee prompt for the weekend.
