Keeping the Brain Alive
Half the reason we bother in the first place.
Hi friends.
I have to travel again this weekend, driving with my dog to Florida to go see my folks and then further on down the road for a bit, so I’m writing you now instead. The dog will be staying with my parents for a few days without me so that he can be spoiled rotten, and I am loaning my house to a young writer here so she can have her own mini-residency, and everything feels right and locked into place and as it should be.
I have been busily writing my 1000 words every day, no matter what, even if I’m just laying down the most out-of-order scenes, not questioning it, not worrying about its imperfections, just trusting in myself that anything can be fixed later on if it’s meant to be. I’m trying to keep my head in the game because being in the game is the nicest place to be.
This morning I wrote to myself (and to you):
Be noisy about it. Take up some space with your words. Fill that page with screams, yowls, chit-chat, gossip, deep truths, hidden secrets, hints, whispers, confessions, promises, lies, and horny little proclamations of desire.
And also I wrote:
Don’t let the heat get to you.
