Thank you so much! How To Write An Autobiographical Novel is genius, as is the 1000 Words book. Love the gossip idea: "Writing is like gossiping about the characters. Am I telling the best stories about them that I possibly can?" Great guidance, thank you!
I've been a longtime fangirl of Alexander Chee. I savoured his essay and it brought me tears not unlike when a member of my chosen family shows up for me -- and hearing him read it was like it was brand new. And shoutout to different note books, I'm a Leuchtturm babe - so much so that it was a gateway to fountain pens that were worthy of the paper quality...but i digress - and back to #1000WordsOfSummer
I had to go work a photo gig this morning but I knew you and Alexander Chee would be a lovely chat to observe so immediately opened up this to watch! I have exchanged words with Chee in the DM's and it's always a joy. Thank you again both for pushing us. TIME TO GO GOSSIP. :P
This is my second year attempting this. I am more of visual artist than a writer. I started a blog a few years back and remembered how much I love to write. It was mostly autobiographical essays which was fun but also could be intense and involved arguing with my mother over details. Somehow this interview really struck a chord with me. This year I am writing fiction and giving myself permission to not take myself so seriously. There have been moments where I just feel like laughing as I write but I think that is okay. Also definitely need to read your book about autobiographical essays!!
Life has really gotten in the way of my writing dreams, even now! On Monday June 2, I had to have oral surgery for a broken tooth and have been in intense pain! Unable to write

I love the exchange of these words. Thanks, Jami. It's great to know Alexander Chee is in the world.
Thanks, that is kind.

Cheers Tate!
In New Mexico I have been battling swarming flying ants! But I bought a beautiful citronella bush at Home Depot and that’s limiting the insects
