I’m judging a contest! The Narratively 2024 Memoir Prize. They’re looking for “revealing and emotional first-person nonfiction narratives from unique and overlooked points of view." One Grand Prize Winner will receive $3,000, and two finalists will receive $1,000 each. To submit a story, use their pitch form here. There is a $20 entry fee (which is waived for subscribers) and the deadline to submit is December 19, 2024. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Hi friends.

All right, me and my small dog are heading to Mexico for the next week. Maybe I’ll send you a postcard.

We are flying, but picture us driving across the border in this piece of art

What I wish for you while I'm gone is for you to be able to tap into what you need to get you through the end of the year. Do not worry right now about what will happen in 2025. Next year is gonna next year no matter what.

Instead, reflect on this: We’ve got about six weeks left. What can you accomplish reasonably in those days? Can you block out a little gift of time for yourself in this busy season? Or are we racing to the finish line? I wish you luck, no matter what you need to accomplish.

And also let me say: I know that you can do this.

Remember that writing is your escape and your own particular journey you are on, and that it is for you and no one else. Let's use these six weeks well.

I’m leaving you with the most effective writing prompt I came up with in the past few weeks (it really did have a lot of juice for me!), plus one bonus one, and if you have any to share in the comments, please do so.
