Thanks for this love letter, Jami. I've lived in NYC since 1977 and, as my friend says, you never get to the end of this city. I haven't, but I now measure my life and my explorations in decades. I don't have that youthful vigor to hop around town, but, when I did, working consumed that energy. NYers work. That's what we do. So a big holiday here consists of a walk through Central Park to admire the pink trees of April or a coffee bar to enjoy the first ice coffee of the season. Of course, I have many reasons for staying here: mostly the constant mixing of people and the opportunity for new ideas and new conversations to burst onto the scene.
I just passed my 10 years IN New York anniversary, and I love it so much, and this piece just made me love it even more. "A whole city beaming. I hope they all know how much collective power they have. In my small blue city in the Deep South, we savored their mayoral election and cheered from here. I always want New York to be safe." I'm crying <3
