Hi friends.
Happy new year! Welcome to all the new subscribers.
Today is a beautiful day to start whatever little project you've been daydreaming about writing. Or to revisit whatever project you have sitting in your drawer. Or to simply check-in with yourself in that intimate, honest way that is only available to you when you put pen to paper. It’s simply a great day to start writing.
There is nothing stopping you from closing this window or putting down your phone or however you're reading this right now and turning your attention to your writing, to your creative self, to your fantastic visions, to your emotional truths. You can start any and all of it today, right now.
Come on, it’s the new year. What are you waiting for?
In other news, the book comes out in six days! Look at how gorgeous it is!
Can you sense my stress and excitement from where you sit because trust me I am feeling it. It is fun but it is nerve-wracking. My worst fears are that I might disappoint someone with this book but also I know I have to let that go. There is no book that is absolutely for everyone. Still, I think of it as an offering for all the writers out there. I hope it gets received that way by at least some people.
And it has been so nice to watch it make its way in the world! Yesterday I did an interview alongside the completely brilliant and charismatic Deesha Philyaw and Isaac Fitzgerald for NPR’s 1A show yesterday. (You can listen to it here.) It was such a fun chat with Jenn White and it was honestly quite thrilling to be on NPR. And I got to read Morgan Parker’s contribution to the book on air which was so fun and such an honor.
Also today Isaac talked the book on The Today Show. (You can watch it here.) Look at that headline: “Best Motivational Read for the New Year!” Holy shit!! Also so thrilling! I could die now, truly. I am so grateful to Isaac for believing in this book. And holy cow is he good at what he does.
Next week tour starts. As a reminder I’ll be doing events in New Orleans, New York, DC, Philly, and Jacksonville and more cities further out in the year. I hope you can come say hello. (Also, there’s still time to pre-order it!)
And finally I just want to say I hope this book reaches whoever needs it. It’s meant to inspire you and remind that you writing is always available to you, always waiting for you, whenever you are ready. I truly hope you enjoy it. We made it for you.

You are reading Craft Talk, the home of #1000wordsofsummer and also a weekly newsletter about writing from Jami Attenberg. I’m also on twitter and instagram.
As usual your message was meant for me. Today I returned to the quiet study in the library and sat down with my novel in progress. Im revising the first five pages for a contest submission. 2024 is my year of taking leaps into submission frontier. It’s time to stack up the “no’s” to get to my Yes’s.
I watched Issac and he is the most fun book lover there is. So thrilled your book was part of his enthusiastic pitch to America. I can’t wait to get my pre-order. Good luck on your tour and enjoy the ride. You deserve it.
So excited to receive my copy! Best wishes on your book tour and may you make a zillion dollars. I mean, that pup needs treats, right?
