Hi friends.
I have been musing this morning about what it takes to cross the finish line of a novel. I am only one-third of my way through writing my first draft and have been waylaid these last six weeks or so by my publication. But the bulk of the promotional work is done and I should be able to get back to business over here in a month(ish). So I think I'm writing this letter now for me as much for you: a marker in the sand for thinking about how to finish a book, really push your way through to the end.
I saw a writer friend recently who was more than three-quarters of the way through a draft of her third book. She is smart woman, a good, successful writer, an excellent advice-giver, someone with incredible focus, but also someone who looks out for a lot people, which can take time away from work.
I think these last two bits probably describe more than a few people on this list. You have the focus—when you are given the time to do so. (Of course, the only one giving you this time in the end is you.) (Sorry.)
When I was speaking to my friend I realized I was witnessing was someone who was seriously giving herself the time. I was riveted, listening to her strategies.
