Who Are You Rooting For Today?

A little weekend prompt inspired by the ones I love.

Hi friends.

I’m driving up from Key West tomorrow to Miami to do the Book Fair there this weekend. I’m going to drive slowly, as I have been advised by others who have taken the same trip before to take my time and look around. So we will see what we can see along the way. Maybe it will just be the intersection of sea and sky. That would be enough for me.

In Miami I’ll do an event with Maris, one where I get to be her interlocutor. I’ve had such a fortunate year where I’ve gotten to be in conversation with so many of my friends along the way, like Kristen and Megan and Tricia and Jason, not to mention all the other interviews with new friends. Like it was an actual gift to applaud my friends in a public fashion, and it was also very meaningful to me to interact with them about their work, ask them questions, listen deeply to their responses. And I also loved watching other people query them, be interested in them, be impressed by them, all of us sharing in a cultural exchange for a moment.

This career is made up of ups and downs aplenty, but when there is a moment of success, either for ourselves or for our friends, we must lean the fuck into it all and cheer.
