Hi friends.
Just wanted to let you all know I talked to my accountability partner last night and we decided this year’s #1000wordsofsummer will be May 31-June 13. My accountability partner is a teacher and a writer and a parent, and those days worked best for her, and so I assumed they would be helpful to lots of you, too! (I can write basically…whenever, so I am just trying to be of assistance here to those who cannot.)
If you’re new to it, we write one thousand words a day for two weeks straight on whatever we like, though I think lots of folks tend to focus on long-form projects.
There are daily letters of encouragement which include words of wisdom from guest writers. There will be a Slack again this year where participants can meet again to share their word count and support each other. It is a lot of work and a lot of fun and I hope you will join me again (or newly) this year.
This is the fourth year of #1000wordsofsummer. The focus will be on starting from scratch, as that is where I will be in my life. Finish one thing, start another. Away we go.
I’m opening up the comments today so people can ask questions, give support, find accountability partners, and the like. Please, no self-promotion. Thank you!
Jami
You are reading Craft Talk, a weekly newsletter about writing from Jami Attenberg. I’m also on twitter and instagram. I try to answer comments as best I can, which are open to paid subscribers. You can subscribe here or give a gift subscription here. (If you are a teacher let me know, and I will give you a free subscription.) Fifty percent of the proceeds will go to various cultural, educational, and social justice organizations in New Orleans (and sometimes elsewhere).
Very excited about this!
I'm working on a novel and have been writing 15 minutes a day with a normal output of around 200 words. I have a 5 year old and an 8 month old and a PT job and will be starting a Master's in Teaching program in June but will be trying my damndest to up my output to 1000 words/day. Don't think I can "take on" an accountability partner, but maybe I'm wrong? I just don't want to fail anyone when I inevitably miss some accountability check-in lol.
Thank you so much for doing this again! Last summer it pretty much saved my life, living in that story, and I never stopped. It will be wonderful to be back here where it started.
