Absolutely lovely. So glad you and Sid are safe, Jami. So are all my other Nola persons, this time. 🙏🏻

Best of luck getting home and comfortable. I love the story of bread. A small, good thing.

Thanks, Jami. I am so relieved to know you are ok. By now I hope your power came back. I will always think about your week love affair with a loaf of bread when I am at the artisan bread counter at Whole Foods. Self-care can be as simple as a slice of bread and butter. That is a metaphor for life. Stay safe.

I can't articulate how much I enjoyed reading this. It just amazes me how sometimes something as simple as a loaf of bread can be more than a physical sustenance.

Jami, I live in Portland, OR, and my power was out for 3.5 days during a big ice storm in February. It brought me right down to survival mode, and I recall some olive ciabatta with cheese or butter, as well as huddling under a bunch of blankets with my two cats. I hope each day is getting a little easier and that you get to go home soon.

I hardly ever comment but want to say thanks for this! Exactly what I needed tonight. Nothing like what you and N.O. are going through but, as my friend says, feelings. Ugh. ❤️ Your pup!

Glad you are well. How do you resist the urge to go back and rewrite a previous chapter (or two, or three) before finishing the first draft?

Hang tough. I'm rooting for you.

Relevant question: What are your thoughts on writing about disaster as it's occurring? Do you find some value in "writing through it" like some gonzo legend, or do you think it's better to "process" and recollect in tranquility?

Obviously I'll be patient for an answer. Always get some insight from your posts. Good luck!

I initially read the first sentence as “outrage map” and decided that could be a thing these days, too.

Thankful you're safe and able to head back home. In terms of writing questions, I would love to hear your thoughts on keeping everything (old drafts, current drafts, wee notes to self, possible poem lines, possible characters, etc) organized in a functional way. I'm working on a collage-style memoir, returning to it after years away, and WHEW organization is a trip that keeps messing with the process. I'm organized and able to track things in all other aspects... save for this memoir.
