I just wanted to pop in to cheer everyone on because I can't do #1000 words of summer this year. But two years ago, it was integral to starting a new novel -- which, fingers crossed, will be on its way to copy-editing later this month. (I guess it's #10000wordsofediting.)
I am ready to write 1000 words! So ready, but also a bit nervous because I haven't written regularly since before Christmas and I don't feel that I have the time right now either (when do we ever) - BUT I really want to do this. Keep your fingers crossed for me please.
Day One, 1,256 words! Will prepare at some point tomorrow because this year is a bit of a mishmash, but every year is different, and every year is magical. I don't need a huge plan to start - just a paper and pen, and to begin. Good luck, everyone!
Because I’m turning 52 during this amazing event, I decided to start a new Substack (it’s private). But the author of the new pub isn’t me as I am today. I started it as if I were on the cusp of THIRTY-two. What were my dreams, interests, challenges? I took Substack back in time with me and started.
I wrote my About page and all of the header and footer pages, dropping the content of each into a single Google Doc.
Just as I was going to begin my Welcome emails, I decided to tally up. You are not going to believe this:

Solo parenting all day today but can I still do a thousand words? Will I? I think I can, I think I can...
Rooting for you! And for a solid hour of naps. Or quiet coloring, lego building, playdough sculpting? Whatever gets you the time you need ;)
My kids are teens now so it is easier, but can still remember how hard it was! I am rooting for you too!

Something serendipitous happened on Day 1:
