This one really resonates. I started in radio too, and the relationship to speaking a story versus writing it is fraught for me. I still get trapped in trying to work it out. Thanks so much Jane Marie, and I LOVE Selling the Dream.

Cheers to sentences that break the rules! And a bird - or birds; I put a birdfeeder outside my writing window, so I never feel alone. (Don't worry, Jami, I kept it separate from the butterflies I grew on my desk. :)

This post was the one for me. I went from sitting in summer school for English in high school to 10 years later switching my major to English, to teaching it to high schoolers five years after that. And now I'm letting myself entertain the idea of trying to get paid for things I write. My high school self would have confidently bet against you if you'd told her then this would be her future.

Wow. I can't thank you enough for gathering all these voices for us! Everyone has such gold to offer. I LOVE writing the weird, breathy run on sentences and def struggle with trying to make myself a "real" writer. Also read the artist's way and have been religiously doing morning pages since then, but lately they feel stale and like they aren't helping... this gives me permission to mix it up. 🙏

1,062. Train keeps a rollin’. Got to the point where I introduce a new character who thrives on routine, which is apt, as this exercise is beginning to feel like it’s embedded in my muscle memory and that is a great feeling. :-)

"I like surprising her." Yes! Great letter! Day 11, 1,275 words, it's so nice to write new words of a novel, letting the words pile up, making a chaos pile. My sweet pup who passed visited me in early morning dreams and has been with me all morning, working on what appears to be a new book instead of the manuscript I intended to edit this time. Let those new words pile up! The best feeling. Also, your new book cover is delicious. Can't wait!
