"What is in our power is writing something and then setting it down in front of other people without apology.”--I so needed this whole post today! I am writing forward in a draft of a novel that I know is not quite right yet. There are whole sections that I buzz through that I'll need to go back later and bring life to. I've got a shifting POV that needs a little tune-up. I keep slipping into present tense. Right now I am trying to just write forward and this challenge is helping me with that. I've wasted too much time pausing to fret over known flaws.
A running joke in my household is to shout, "NOT MY BEST!" even when you have, in fact, done your best (effort, not result). It's very freeing, but I am going to start incorporating the flipside, because it feels a little like flammable/inflammable - somehow, even though they sound like opposites, they mean the same thing.
I wrote 1000 words today, and it's not even close to midnight. THIS IS MY BEST!!!
Hiiiii everyone!!! I haven't started on my Day 6 writing! I fell asleep last night on 799 words, so I woke up and finished Day 5. Is that cheating? (I *AM* cackling here, FYI). Thank you for the constant words and am loving everyone on their journey. Let's go SIIIIXXXX. (PS, I'm so new I never knew about word count on Google Docs, #gamechanger!)
I love this story about Julia Child and often use it to discourage people from apologizing if they did have a cold, or whatever, and their newsletter is a day or a week late. In my experience, 99.9% of the time, no one minds or even notices. Keep it moving.
Admittedly, I was a "cold timid soul" just six days ago. But now I just let out the best 300 words I have ever written. I did not cheat (even though the thought did cross my mind). Here's to letting out 700 more throughout the course of the day.

I love this!
Day 6, and 1034 words
Day 6 -- 1121 salt-free words
Just hitting my stride!
Made it! Under five hours of sleep last night, so I almost baled, but I hung in there and got it done.
1027 words, words I kind of like. I would not have stayed with it today without this commitment. Thank you Jami and all #1000wordsofsummer.

I like how I said "my household" like it's not just me and my husband shouting this at each other in our little city condo. THIS IS MY BEST, GUYS!!!
1367 words in today!
Needed to hear this today! In the game, 1015 words. Best thing I’ve written
Yes!!!
I’m in it! I wrote 1003 more words today.

This perspective on writing is so refreshing. When I sit down later to write, I will remember they are the best words I’ve written today. 🫶🏽

Today I will even dare to set it down in front of myself without apology.

Let's GO KATIE.
I'm off to write the best 1,000 words I've ever written... (I just love this, thank you!)
