I love this. The file I'm working on right now is called "BRUTAL EDIT." So, this resonates! Thank you, as always, for sharing windows into your process.
Thank you, Jami. This "obvious shit" is extremely helpful, and I loved reading about the small things you've noticed out in the world when you're not writing. The dad at joint custody drop-off broke my heart.
Hi Jami, as usual, your advice, which is not shit. hit the nail on the head for me. Thanks for sharing your process with us, all 35,000 of us. Even though you send your messages out to the world, I selfishly feel you are writing just to me. Keep it coming! Thanks.
Thank you! This was the message I needed to hear today. I'm about to jump into an edit. Excited for it, but also nervous, and perhaps tentative. This made me feel empowered to jump in and start cutting!
Bravo, you, on Progress in Portland! Love your list of what you accomplished in the Lean Edit... 18,000 words trimmed! And that photo is lovely... did you take it? Thank you for this!
Such a useful behind-the-scenes of the revising process in all its joy and struggle. Reducing paragraphs to one sentence--yes! Going for flash to tighten--yes! I often give myself word count limits for chapters, too, as you described. I let myself ramble as much as I need to in early drafts so the tightening is even more delicious. Thanks for another great post and enjoy Portland--one of my former homes.
When? When you can tell two people should just break up already?
This is top shelf, freshly picked peach, distilled vinegar ( pure, cleansing, zippy) advice! Love it. thanks for pausing to share it with us.

Such excellent principles of editing! I love all of this.

Nothing better than a good eavesdrop!

Ditto frozen blueberries. And....this is such a help right now as I'm revising.....!! Thanks again, Jami!
Thank you❣️ How much of what you cut do you keep, if any? As in a separate file or folder, just in case.
Well, there's always an original document sitting there in the archives if I really want to go back in time.
