I would tell you, yesterday I hit send on what I think are the final revisions on the book that I've been working on for the last four (4!) years. And I would thank your for your help in getting me there.

Thank you for validating the amount of time it takes to write a book, which understandably fluctuates for every writer.

Thank you Jami! I would tell you “You won’t believe this - it seems I’ve just (miraculously) landed a contract for the (nonfiction) book you helped me jumpstart in June.” The 1000 word challenge helped me move from hyperfocusing on research and detail work to coughing up rough chapters worth of material. I haven’t touched it for a few weeks as I awaited word. Now I need to find a way back in for the long slog -- the mini challenge is perfectly timed. And I love my mug :-)

You just inched me away from the piles of research for my bio/MOMoir on family foodwriters and into next week’s #1000words mini challenge!

Of course our research is essential but I can get lost in it. The writing challenge propels forward movement :-) on some days I chose to write 1000 words of research notes but because they were my words they ended up being useful in later chapter drafts.

I loved this so much. I would admit to you that I have not yet read even one of your books but today I am buying one. Now. Right now. And I am going to my local bookseller because I know how highly you value that connection. I forward your letters to friends all the time because your writing and your thoughts are so warm, personal, and contagious. The porch story was a hug. Thank you!

I would tell you that I'm reading my advance copy of #1000 Words and I'm loving it and already writing a great review in my head.

I'm reading an advanced copy as well, and I love it 🩷. It's insightful and inspiring. Obviously, I will buy a copy as well. I just couldn't wait. 😂

I love the idea of doing a “back-to-writing” push after the back-to-school push. I’m glad I’m not alone in feeling like I need a re-setting of my writing boundaries.

Also, I’m so happy/sad that you’ll be so close to me in Bronxville, as I’ll be facilitating my own event elsewhere! Off to tell a million local friends about this event, though. I hope it’s great!

Thank you for this. It is exactly what I need today. I would tell you I'm terrified. I've accomplished what I set out to do - write a true and compelling memoir, get a supportive all-in agent, and have the agent sell it to an amazing editor. I am there, and now I am afraid. I believe in the work of writing and want to stay in my pajamas all day and put more words on the page. But now is the time to be out in the world and get the book into the hands of readers who it will serve, who might feel less alone, or more courageous, or more human after reading. But I don't know how to be out there, which terrifies me. Does anyone teach writers how to do this?

I would tell you I’m sporadically writing late at night from bed (some of it exciting, some of it really really bad) while wishing I would write in the morning but telling myself that first I need to live alone to make this happen, and then spending hours figuring out how many more hours I need to work to make that happen instead of, I dunno, maybe walking one block to my nearest coffee shop with my headphones and spending $5 on a relatively distraction-free office.
