Going for a walk. Every time I need to detangle my thoughts to be able to write I go for a walk. Occasionally I’ll listen to a podcast to get out of my head, but more often than not I listen to music or nothing at all and just let my mind wander.

For me, it's reading or watching interviews with creatives talking process: it reminds me that I am in dialogue with other creatives. Another is going to a bookstore and looking at titles of works that are in dialogue with my own...that too is a spark.

I am also someone who looks to poetry for this. Starting a poetry habit was one of the best things I've done for my creative life.

Going for a walk. Looking at the sky, the sun on the trees, spring flowers poking up from lawns, just noticing the beauty around me and feeling the motion of moving. Rejuvenating💕

It’s about knowing how to soothe and then focus my brain so that I can arrive at the place where I can begin again -- Jami, I will be carrying this line around with me this week for sure, exactly what I needed. xo

I find poetry in recipes. Reading vintage cookbooks, yellowed magazine clippings, handwritten recipe cards—all sparks to ignite my creative fire. And then, I write.

A walk outside or playing with stickers in my planner. Both seem to be direct paths to my creative fount.

I love this post. I love the simplicity, the honesty and the encouragement. Bless you, Jami. For me, it’s a brief meditation, followed by reading a page or two of a favorite author. It makes me feel like they are keeping me company.
