I have loved reading your words this year. You inspire me and my writing practice. Thank you. Cheers to the new year! May you find unexpected joy in 2021.
First, “there is no progress without motion” – for me, whether it’s looking up kitchen herb gardens and finding several herbs that repel ants to help not only me but my character, Lily, who, naturally, has a kitchen herb garden of course or spinning my wheels wondering how to get the next chapter just started already or even those days when the ideas come one after the other and I really rack up some forward momentum. It’s all progress because it’s all been moving forward; onward.
Secondly, “Things were bad, then even worse, and then they got better.” – now, I know you are writing about yourself and your memoir and your experiences, but it does translate extremely well to the basic journey of story and a good reminder to boot.
Thank you for sharing your voice this year - it's been immeasurably helpful to me (an many others by the looks of your threads). My best to you in 2021 - looking forward to our continuing conversation.
Thank you, Jami. As I am also currently working on a memoir, I found these things you’ve written yourself to resonate with me so much. I actually wrote a bunch of them down to keep as reminders: “I feel at a distance, but it feels fresh and close” and “cut out the ‘I’ a little more if I can, in this story of my life” are just two of the little wisdoms and advice I needed to read.

This is such a gentle piece and I love it, Jami. Will be rolling this one around in my head today.
I needed this today. Thank-you for the writing, for allowing me to write blindly, expose my under belly, as a gift to me.
My two favorite takeaways:
