Years ago a friend introduced me to the concept of "pajama day." On pajama day, one takes a bath and puts on clean pajamas and watches movies or reads books. The most important thing about pajama day is to realize when it is pajama day before you've struggled through it and are frustrated. I am glad you did not miss yours. Also, the anticipation and anxiety of a book coming out and full schedule of events would definitely make it hard for me to write!
Dear Jami, Thank you, thank you, thank you for this year. I mean, not the pandemic parts or the coup d'etat parts, but all the writing parts. I wrote a whole novel, and half of a revision this year.
I'm a little stuck now--it's that time of year, plus, I agreed to help write a grant--but, as always seems to happen, your post is helping me get through this, too. (Do you know the book "Wintering?" The author talks about sometimes treating yourself kindly, as you might a favored child--not everything is about being "productive.") Anyway, I just wanted to stop and say how much I appreciate your generous, thoughtful coaching/cheering/encouragement. Greetings of the season to you and Sid. Please give him an extra ear skritch from this fan. And I pre-ordered the book, so, stickers! Oh, wait--it's not just about the stickers, I can't wait to read it, too!
I am very excited for stickers! Also I appreciate this because it has been a struggle lately. I feel like I should be doing Serious Work but also everything is so much and hard and wearying. All I want to do is curl up and read. (The only writing I have done is for a silly, self indulgent little novella that probably won't ever be published but at least it is amusing my friend that I am writing for)
The best thing past me did this year was pre-order your book from Books Are Magic back in July, because me and old sloppy brain over here keep forgetting and then every time you mention it I REMEMBER and then I get super excited and now THERE ARE STICKERS?!? This is my official testimonial for pre-ordering books real early. Also, thank you for this post. Me and Slop Brain needed it this morning.
I TOTALLY GET IT! If I ever figure out how to complete this thing I'm working on I think (I hope???) is a book, stickers will absofuckinglutely happen. Even if I have to make them myself.
So grateful for your message today, and all your advice and thoughts all year. Your newsletter is a highlight for me and I can't wait to read your new book. Thank you, Jami.
Hello my love! Thank you for this, for all your wisdom and wit and kindness over the year. You just are great, that's all. Love from London to you and Sid.
Thank you for this timely message! I’be been bouncing around projects for the entirety of 2021, trying to find anything that sticks. When I finally brought it up with my therapist last week, she said “it’s a pandemic. You’re not behind. You are where you need to be.” I have a difficult time staying present in the best of times, but I’m working on it. And that, I suppose, is progress.
I just want to add to the chorus of voices saying I NEEDED THIS REASSURANCE and also THANK YOU. You are a treasure.

“Soft Writing/Deer In The Woods” should be an official category, and then I’d be so totally published 😂👍🏼

Just wanted to say thanks for always saying exactly what a writer needs to hear!
